Museums & Heritage in Escarpment Country

Take a step back in time with a trip to one of our many museums and heritage sites. At the Halton Region Museum, you can visit a pioneer homestead founded by the Alexander Family in 1836 and stroll to the Blacksmith shop, Alexander Barn, log house and visitor centre. For another unique historical experience, visit Country Heritage Park, an interactive heritage park depicting agriculture and rural life over the last 150 years. This unique attraction is located on an 80-acre site with over 30 exhibit buildings and 20,000 artifacts, featuring an outstanding collection of antique tractors, steam engines, farm equipment and rural life artifacts. The Halton County Radial Railway is Canada's first, and Ontario's only, operating electric railway museum. Enjoy a trip down memory lane with rides on a variety of restored streetcars as well as radial and work cars through scenic woodlands.
Visit one of the most accurately dated prehistoric archaeological sites in Canada at Crawford Lake Conservation Area. This reconstructed 15th century Iroquoian village features longhouses, palisade, artifacts and exhibits as well as scenic hiking trails. Looking for your own family’s roots? In Milton, you can explore that, too, with the help of our local genealogy experts.
